Every year, Santorini is crowned one of the most coveted holiday destinations for sunseekers. The island, with its crystalline waters and volcanic landscapes, is a desired destination for an array of travellers. From friend groups looking to live out their Mamma Mia fantasy, to couples seeking a romantic getaway and families geared up to enjoy the glistening Aegean Sea. Perched on a hillside, Sandblu just opened its doors as the first 5-star resort on the beautiful island, promising an optimal experience for every genre of guest that enters through the door. Offering stunning views over the Aegean, seventeen suites boasting private pools, a relaxing Spa offering treatments signed by 111 SKIN and ESPA, two flowing infinity pools, and a wide selection of on-site food spots.

The Stay

The resort features fifty-one rooms, suites and villas. Seventeen of which include secluded private pools overlooking the  Kamari Beach. This property is the epitome of Greek luxury. A sprawling white ‘village’ recreated at the bottom of an ancient hill, with both views of the sea below and the volcanic rock formations typical of the island all around. The purity of the sinuous buildings is brought to life by the surrounding greenery, the red of the pomegranate trees scattered around the property and the natural tones used in the furniture and textile accents.

The state-of-the-art suites hone delicate minimalism with soft tones and light wood throughout the space. The bed and pillows are plush and beyond comfortable, making it extremely difficult to abandon the cocoon in the morning. Thankfully, the comfort extends to the huge sun beds by the two infinity pools located on different levels of the resort. Blu, the main pool, offers plenty of space for groups and families. Including a shallow area where children can safely play in the water. Aqua, the smaller pool, is an ideal spot for solo lounging and relaxation.

The Indulgences

As if the dazzling blue sea wasn’t enough to wash all worries away, Sandblu has partnered with two fabulous brands to bring the ultimate pampering experience to its guests. Offering all the building blocks for a regenerative holiday itinerary, if that's what you're after.

Products from world-renowned brand ESPA are featured in the rooms as well as in a selection of treatments at the hotel's spa, Aurora. While 111 SKIN, a cult favourite for editors and celebrities, is used exclusively in a wide variety of the spa's facial treatments. Aurora also includes an indoor heated pool, steam room and sauna. For the fitness-fuelled, the gym is small but mighty. Located at the bottom of the resort with full Technogym equipment and an outdoor Zen garden that can be used for yoga sessions and meditative practices.

Sandblu's indulgent selection of food offerings is definitely their outstanding feature. The hotel’s bakery, Stari, is open all day and serves pastries and artisanal coffee. Platea is where guests are invited for breakfast to sample a self-serve spread of delicious Greek treats from yoghurt and fresh fruits to cakes and tarts. While Platea's eggs, avocado toasts and other fresh-made breakfast classics are served à la carte. The scrambled eggs, cooked with fragrant Greek extra virgin olive oil instead of butter, are incredibly creamy and perfectly cooked – definitely a must-try to start the day on the right foot. At lunch, Platea serves Mediterranean classics like octopus on a bed of fava beans, ceviche and grilled meat.

Where guests can taste the best wines the island has to offer and discover more about Santorini’s rich winemaking tradition. For dinner, Apnea delights guests with a menu filled with Greek classics but with a twist. Think fried calamari, lobster pasta, and blue crab served with cucumber and melon sorbet.
