The Golden Vines Awards was established in 2021 by Liquid Icons, a fine wine research and content production company founded by two friends, the late Gérard Basset OBE MW MS, a world-renowned sommelier, and fine wine and spirits collector Lewis Chester, alongside Sasha Lushnikov. Their shared passion for oenology and desire to make a significant impact in the wine industry led to the creation of this prestigious event. Following Gérard’s untimely passing in 2019, the Golden Vines Awards was conceived to honour his legacy and to continue his mission of celebrating excellence in the wine and spirits industry as well as focusing on making this sector more inclusive and accessible.

Over the weekend, the event promises an extraordinary lineup of activities including masterclasses led by renowned names such as Dom Pérignon, Château d’Yquem, and Maison Krug. The gala dinner being hosted at the Real Casa De Correos, is set to feature a dinner crafted by 2 Michelin-starred Chef Mario Sandoval, accompanied by world class performances and of course, award-winning wines.
Attendees will enjoy luxurious lunches hosted by esteemed vignerons and producers as well as the Golden Vines Awards Gala at Palacio Cibeles, where the best in the industry will be honoured. The dinner is being curated by the chefs of Catalonia's three Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca.
The weekend concludes with exclusive experiences, such as a private jet trip to San Sebastian for a Rolls-Royce private collection viewing and lunch at Asador Etxebarri, wine and cigar tastings, and the opportunity to watch Real Madrid play at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The Golden Vines Awards are not just about celebrating the finest wines and spirits; they also focus on supporting diversity and inclusion within the industry. The Gérard Basset Foundation, established in Gérard’s memory, plays a crucial role in this mission by offering scholarships, internships, and mentorship opportunities to individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. This commitment to inclusivity ensures that the legacy of excellence and passion for wine continues to thrive across diverse communities.
As the Golden Vines Awards continue to grow, the event is already set to make its mark in Miami in 2025 and Singapore in 2026, bringing its unique celebration of fine wine and spirits to new audiences around the globe.
