Over the past year, the UK has united in its gratitude to the NHS and the dedicated efforts of its staff in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, Mayfair's Maddox Gallery - known for its superb collection of Modern and Contemporary Art - has unveiled an exclusive new public-facing exhibition. Consisting of seven larger-than-life portraits in the windows of the gallery, it celebrates the medical workers on the frontline, launched in collaboration with celebrity hairdresser Adee Phelan, who in 2020 started a hugely successful fundraising initiative, "NHS Gift for Heroes", which has amassed £1.7m in donations of hair and beauty products with which to gift NHS staff.
In recognition of Phelan's charitable endeavours - and to commemorate the lives of those lost within the NHS - Maddox Gallery enlisted lauded photographer Rankin to shoot portraits of seven NHS employees from different regions of the UK, each with their own story to tell about their experiences of fighting the virus. Vivid floral arrangements also feature outside the gallery, complete with rainbow colours in tribute to the NHS.
