Modern Comfort Meets Icelandic Charm: Discover Reykjavik’s Exeter Hotel

Walking into the modern designed lobby, the minimalist decor, combined with the subtle use of natural materials, created an ambiance that was both luxurious and inviting. The clean lines and contemporary furnishings throughout the hotel added to the overall sense of elegance and comfort.

Within the hotel’s lobby is also the buzzing Tail bar, which is clearly a magnet for both locals and tourists alike. The atmosphere was always vibrant but casual, which was ideal after a day of exploring Iceland’s stunning landscapes. The selection of drinks was impressive, featuring a mix of classic cocktails and innovative creations, providing for a perfect nightcap.

The rooms are spacious and reflect the rest of the hotel’s minimalist and modern design. Mainly a mix of darker grey and navy tones, the rustic orange leather headboards brighten up the room. My bedroom had a gorgeous view overlooking the downtown harbour of Reykjavik. The ensuite bathroom tied in very well with the rest of the room with its sleek black and white design.

The hotel is located in Reykjavik’s downtown more artsy neighbourhood, which added an extra layer of charm to my stay. Surrounded by galleries, street art, boutique shops, and fabulous restaurants, the Exeter Hotel is a great choice for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Breakfast at the Exter Hotel was another highlight. The variety of food on offer caters to a wide range of tastes. Freshly baked pastries, locally sourced cheeses, and fresh fish including salmon and Arctic Char (an Icelandic delicacy similar to trout) were available at the daily buffet. The quality of the ingredients was evident, and the relaxed environment was perfect ahead of a big day of exploring. Another fantastic benefit is Deig Bakery inside the hotel. They provide freshly baked bagels and doughnuts which served as perfect daily lunches to take on my travels.

After a day of sightseeing, the hotel’s sauna would call for me on the journey home. There couldn’t have been a better way to relax and rejuvenate after returning from walking across glaciers. The facilities were modern, and the sauna and changing rooms are kept immaculately clean. It was a peaceful haven where I could unwind and reflect on the day’s adventures. The hotel staff were extremely attentive and even prepared a surprise breakfast takeaway bag as I checked out early morning to head back to the airport.

Before staying at the Exeter Hotel, I thought its only use would be as a base, whilst exploring Iceland. However, with its chic design, lively social scene, and excellent amenities, in the heart of the action, it turned into a place I looked forward to coming home to each night.
