Seamlessly merging old with new, EDEN Gallery prepares to unveil the work of four contemporary artists in their latest exhibition named Timeless Inspirations: Classical Roots in Modern Art.

Presented by EDEN Gallery

We can all agree that pacing around a gallery looking at impressively realistic paintings and infamous classics is how many people choose to enjoy art. But when it comes to modern art – or modern art at EDEN Gallery – it’s more than wandering around hangings on a wall. It’s a whole immersive experience. You step into EDEN Gallery and it feels as if you are entering through a vortex to another world. A world where you can casually see Monopoly Man trotting on a horse with a polo mallet in hand, or a human-sized PEZ dispenser topped with the chiselled head of a Roman statue. It’s an entrance into the unimaginable.

The gallery, located on New Bond Street, now prepares to welcome mind-boggling pieces from a selection of artists for their latest exhibition Timeless Inspirations: Classical Roots in Modern Art. On October 13th, the display will be unveiled to guests with the opportunity to interact with the brains behind the creations. For now, we ask that you bottle up your burning questions as we introduce you to each artist and what they’re bringing to the exhibition. Entwining the ideas of classical and modern into a curated selection that we are sure eyes will feast on.

Alec Monopoly

Alec Monopoly

We all know Monopoly Man AKA Uncle Pennybags. Dashing in stationary on the board with his top hat and bag of loot. Alec Monopoly takes this iconic character from the world of board games and plants him in scenarios far from the chance cards and community chest. In a broad selection of works incorporating his past in graffiti art, Alec numerously places Mr Monopoly with Richie Rich as his partner in crime. The duo are seen lounging together in a Manhattan penthouse, playing polo through a lawn of cash and surrounded by heaps of poker winnings in Paris. Money is a very key theme across the canvases here, but then again, it is Uncle Moneybags and Richie Rich.

Angelo Accardi

Angelo Accardi

We briefly mentioned the unimaginable… This is Angelo Accardi’s very forte. His paintings are what one would expect from a vivid fever dream. Memorable and madly brilliant, with an entangling story behind them. Growing up in Southern Italy, Accardi found himself surrounded by both modern and traditional art. Leading him to create surreal images with aspects of the traditional woven in. Your eyes will first catch the ostriches and oversized teddy bears standing out from the pieces, but later focus in to find renaissance fashions and ceiling frescoes. His pieces are a superb representation of classical roots in modern art, it was a must to bring him in as a key part of this new display.

Fred Allard

Fred Allard

Moving onto sculpture, Fred Allard blurs the line between traditional ideas of luxury and funky street-style art in this mixed-media format. From setting a bouquet of Chupa Chups inside a Saint Laurent handbag, to paint-splattered Chanel fragrances inside a golden shopping basket. These sculptures, frozen in resin, aim to leave a thought-provoking impression on viewers using contrasting textures and communicating vibrant ideas.

Jisbar

Jisbar

Taking classical paintings and reinterpreting them, Jisbar strives to convey important meaning through his art. Lacing his paintings with playfully written messages in differing fonts and colour schemes. One glance at a piece of his and you’ll be looking back to see (and read) more. Like a Where’s Wally of the modern art world, there will always be new details to spot. His punk interpretation of the Mona Lisa, dressing her in neon colours and threading her hair with blue highlights, aims to challenge the traditional ideas of beauty that we see continuing into this modern age. Clearly blazoned with the words ‘Be the best version of yourself,’ along with numerous other relevant quotes to his messaging. This piece boosted Jisbar to gain recognition for his work, and now will feature in this new exhibition at EDEN Gallery.
